15 arrested for illegal sale of restricted drugs worth Rs 40 lakh in Hyderabad

Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) sleuths on Thursday arrested 15 offenders indulging in illegal sale of alprazolam and codeine phosphate narcotic medicines in the city. They seized 40 lakh worth prescription-only medicines, from them.

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) sleuths on Thursday arrested 15 offenders indulging in illegal sale of alprazolam and codeine phosphate narcotic medicines in the city. They seized 40 lakh worth prescription-only medicines, from them.
H-NEW sleuths along with Malakpet police have arrested four persons - Pavan Aggarwal of Faridabad in Haryana, Md Basheer Ahmed, owner of Bio-Sphere Medical Agency in Amberpet, A Satyanarayana from Saidabad Colony, and Venu, owner of Akshaya medical shop in Uppal - for indulging in illegal sale of codeine phosphate.

Cops seized 1,160 bottles of codeine phosphate syrup, four cell phones, all worth 2.3 lakh cash.
According to police, codeine phosphate syrup, was being diverted from the market for illegal sale. The main supplier, Pavan Aggarwal, has been supplying the codeine phosphate from Haryana without bills to Md Basheer Ahmed, for 40 a bottle. Basheer along with Sathyanarayana and Venu were illegally selling each bottle to abusers for 200, H-NEW inspector Ramesh Reddy said.
In another operation, a H-NEW team along with Kulsumpura police arrested 12 persons for indulging in illegal sale of alprazolam.
"Suresh Babu had been purchasing alprazolam tablets from distributors and illegally diverting the tablets to accused," police said.
Cops seized 1,52,400 tablets of alprazolam, a car and 10 cell phones, all worth 20 lakh from the accused.
