HUBBALLI: A new vice-chancellor for Karnataka State Law University (KSLU), Hubballi, is likely to be appointed soon.
The KSLU has been without a V-C since eight months after the retirement of T R Subramanya.
Sources said that the five-member Vice-Chancellor Research Committee, headed by retired Gulbarga University V-C, Prof V B Coutinho, has shortlisted three candidates - K M Hanumantarayappa, retired professor of Bangalore University, Ishwar Bhat, vice-chancellor of National Law College, Kolkata, and S S Patil, retired professor of Gulbarga University.
The most senior and experienced candidate will be made the next vice-chancellor, said sources. There are about 18 candidates in the fray.
The selection committee is awaiting nod from the governor to announce the new vice-chancellor which is likely to be made in a couple of days, said sources.
As per the new rule, the retirement age of vice-chancellor has been increased to 67 from 65. "So taking all these factors, including social justice into consideration, the new vice-chancellor will be appointed," said a source.
An in-charge vice-chancellor is handling the day-to-day affairs of the university. Prof G S Patil served as the first vice-chancellor of KSLU when it was started in 2009. T R Subramanya took over after Patil's retirement.
