Guwahati: Assam police's special task force (STF) apprehended a drug peddler from the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in the Betkuchi area, on the outskirts of the city and recovered narcotics valued at over two crore from his possession. The apprehended person, identified as Nurul Haque (45), hails from Dholai in Cachar. STF recovered 19 soap boxes containing heroin weighing 239.5 grams and one mobile phone.
Following the arrest, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to X and congratulated Assam police for their vigilance and commitment to a drugs free Assam.
Assam police CPRO Pranab Jyoti Goswami in a statement said, "Acting on an intel, a team of STF conducted a raid inside ISBT, Betkuchi under Gorchuk PS and apprehended a drug peddler on Wednesday while he was trying to smuggle contraband. During the search, following all formalities of BNSS/ NDPS Acts necessary legal formalities has been initiated."
In another development a police team from Paltan Bazar police station arrested a drug peddler from Paltan Bazar area on Wednesday evening.
"The police team arrested the person identified as Bikash Phukan (25) of Kahilipara area acting on an intel. From the peddler's possession 24 vials of suspected heroin weighing 32 grams were seized during the arrest. Legal actions against the peddler have been already initiated," said a police officer from Paltan Bazar PS.
