Guwahati: Meghalaya Police on Thursday brought back state
BJP vice-president Bernard N Marak, who is accused of running a brothel at his farmhouse, to Tura on a transit remand from
Uttar Pradesh where he was arrested on Tuesday.
Police have registered a case against Marak at Tura women’s police station under Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act.
BJP state president Ernest Mawrie told the media that he has sent a report on the incident involving Marak to the central leadership of the party and is waiting for further instructions from New Delhi. He said the state party leadership has not disowned Marak.
Marak was arrested in UP’s Hapur on Tuesday. He was produced before a local court there on Wednesday, which granted two days’ transit remand.
Meghalaya Police had issued a lookout notice against Marak after the BJP leader went missing following a raid at his farmhouse (Rimpu Bagan) near Tura on July 22 and said the property was being used as a brothel. Police, during the raid, arrested 73 people, including 23 women, and rescued five minors.
