AGARTALA: Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said insurgency is the biggest challenge for NE states now.
Talking to the media here, he said the NDA government is committed to solving the problem at any cost for all-round development of the region in a time-bound manner. He urged all insurgent outfits of the northeast to shun the path of violence and join the mainstream.

Singh said, “Insurgents have already seen the result of insurgency. Now, they should give us the opportunity to develop the region for future generations.”
Rajnath held meetings with Bru leaders of Mizoram at Kanchanpur in North Tripura and also met chief minister Manik Sarkar on the Bru repatriation issue. However, Mizoram CM Lalthanhawala did not turn up at the meeting.
Singh convened the meeting in Agartala to resolve the stalemate in repatriating 31,223 Brus sheltered in six camps of North Tripura for the last 18 years.
“Brus will be repatriated in their homeland soon. We have made up our mind to execute the plan of repatriation. I appeal to the Mizoram government to assist the Center for rehabilitation of Brus and to ensure their security after repatriation,” he said.
“I have been informed that the Mizoram CM is in some interior part of the state for some government purpose. But I would like to urge him to cooperate with us in Bru resettlement,” said Singh.
