Itanagar: A drug peddler was arrested in East Siang district's Pasighat with 2.5gm of heroin worth Rs 3,000 Thursday, police said.
He has been identified as Kadum Tatin, 26, a resident of the Jarku area in the district.
SP (East Siang) Pankaj Lamba said, "Tipped off about drug peddling in the area, a police team led by Pasighat police station OC Ige Lollen was formed under the supervision of SDPO Ayup Boko. The team, including SI Kodak Dagium, planned an operation wherein a decoy customer was sent to purchase contraband substances from the peddler. Once the decoy customer reached the spot and the exchange was about to be made, the police team surrounded the peddler and arrested him."
A thorough personal search was conducted in the presence of the executive magistrate, following all legal formalities, the SP said.
During the search, police said approximately 2.49gm of heroin, about Rs 5,300 in cash and a mobile handset were seized from Tatin's possession. The search and seizure process was videographed on the spot.
A case under Section 21 (a) of the NDPS Act has been registered against Tatin at Pasighat police station.
Meanwhile, the East Siang unit of the Arunachal Pradesh Police urged the general public to share information on drug peddlers/users without any hesitation with the nearest police station, so that the goal of a drug-free East Siang can be realised.
