Cong slams Acharya for ‘overstepping’ brief
Guwahati: The ruling Congress in the state took to the streets on Tuesday and urged President Pranab Mukherjee to discharge Nagaland governor P B Acharya of his duties in Assam.
Members of the Pradesh Congress Committee staged a dharna in front of the Raj Bhavan here and submitted a memorandum to the President through Kamrup (Metro) deputy commissioner M Angamuthu.

The party said the governor is ‘acting and discharging his functions like the agent of a political party’.
The party stated in the memorandum, “We strongly believe that the continuance of P B Acharya as the governor (acting) of Assam with ulterior political motives will shatter the social fabric of the state. We therefore humbly urge you to immediately intervene and restore the dignity of the highest office of our state by either restraining the Hon'ble Governor of Assam to act as per Constitutional norms or relieve him from the additional duties of the state of Assam.”
“The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee condemns such unwanted and politically motivated statement of the governor (acting) of Assam. During the past few days, the acting governor of Assam on a number of occasions has behaved like a spokesman of an opposition party by violating Constitutional conventions,” the PCC said.
