SILCHAR: A resident of
Assam’s Hailakandi district was taken to Mumbai on Monday on charges of raping a woman after making false promises of marrying her. He was arrested on Saturday.
A senior police official on Tuesday said the accused, Sajir Ahmed Mazumder, is a resident of Dhanipur in Lala block of the southern Assam district. He had gone to Mumbai in 2019 in search of a job and started working with a private company.
There, he got introduced to an elderly person, who worked in the same company. He befriended the elderly person’s daughter and eventually they were in a relationship. During their relationship, he allegedly raped her by making false promises of marrying her and returned back to his native village, the official added.
The woman lodged an FIR with Colaba police station on May 29 last year, after which a case was registered and a probe initiated.
