GURGAON: The city police were in denial mode over the Saturday night incident in which two cops in PCR van number 18 allegedly refused to help an accident victim and his friend. Senior police officials said that the cops did not refuse to help the accident victim. Instead, they claimed, those very cops were the ones who admitted the injured to Kalyani Hospital.

A day after the incident, on Sunday, a video clip was uploaded on Gurgaon traffic police Facebook page wherein the two cops were seen refusing to help saying the area did not fall under their jurisdiction, even as the victim’s friend was pleading with the duo to help them.
Later, it was found the PCR was with the Udyog Vihar police station. When contacted, SHO Satender Kumar said, "There is no case against the cops. Even though the area did not fall under their area, they helped the victim and took them to hospital. The charges against them are wrong." Corroborating the statement of the SHO, DCP (east) Maheshwar Dayal went a step ahead and said the police were not cut out for this job and ambulances with enough paramedic staff should be deployed to help accident victims.
The DCP also questioned the ambulance facility in the city. "This service is in bad shape here. Besides, one cannot expect police to do everything. If that is not so, where is the need for having different departments them. Gypsy is not designed to ferry accident victims; ambulance is the right vehicle for that," he said.
