Monsoon weeks away, MCG launches flood portal for complaints

Gurgaon: MCG on Monday launched an online flood reporting portal that will allow residents to report waterlogging incidents directly to civic authorities ahead of the monsoon.

The portal, hosted on the corporation’s website lets residents upload waterlogged-area photos and estimate water depth. Uploading a photo is mandatory for complaints—officials say this helps departments gauge flood severity and respond faster.

To estimate the depth of waterlogging, residents may use visual references like an auto-rickshaw, car, motorcycle, or person. The civic body also requests uploads of photos from flood-prone locations in previous years. Officials stated this data would help identify vulnerable areas and support future planning to mitigate waterlogging.

MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said, “The portal is intended to go beyond complaint registration and help create a more effective disaster management system through public participation. Complaints received would be monitored in real time and direct officials to maintain surveillance at waterlogging-prone locations and complete pending works within prescribed timelines.”

The civic body appealed to residents, RWAs and volunteers to actively use the portal during the monsoon season and share information on flooding incidents to support response efforts.

According to the civic body, 153 major waterlogging-prone locations have been identified across the city, while additional sensitive sites have been mapped through technical studies. MCG said it is carrying out drain cleaning, sewer desilting and other preventive works at these locations and aims to complete key projects before the onset of the monsoon.

The civic body is also installing flood sensors across the city to monitor water levels and sewer overflows in real time. Officials said the sensor data would help the city make data-driven decisions and improve its ability to predict and respond to flooding.

It is also working with technical institutions on projects like rain to resilience, which aims to strengthen urban flood management through technology and better planning.

A volunteer registration feature has been added to the portal. Residents can sign up to assist the civic body during floods and other emergencies in roles such as emergency response, data collection, community awareness, medical assistance, coordination, transportation, and search-and-rescue. Officials said MCG may contact registered volunteers when severe waterlogging or emergencies occur.
