GURGAON: The Haryana transport department is all set to introduce eight Mercedes luxury buses to connect the city with Chandigarh and Amritsar. Bought at a total cost of Rs 8 crore, these buses will hit the roads by the end of October.
Haryana Roadways (Gurgaon) general manager Yashendra Singh said: "The project is in its final stage and we hope to make the buses available to the public by the end of next month."
While the fare to Chandigarh will be the same as charged by Volvo buses, the same for Amritsar will be announced later, Singh added.
The Volvo fare to Chandigarh is Rs 475. From September 17, 50% of Volvo bus tickets to Chandigarh would be available for online booking at an extra charge of Rs 25. The facility will be extended to these buses as well, said a transport official. This is the transport department's first bus service connecting the city to Amritsar. There are also plans to start buses to Jaipur and Jalandhar.
