GURGAON: Haryana Roadways has received an overwhelming response for the posts of drivers and conductors for the upcoming city bus (Mudrika) service. For 250 posts each for drivers and conductors, the Gurgaon office of the roadways has received over 30,000 applications by December 2, the last date for receiving applications. However, this high number of applications may result in a slowdown in the hiring process.

Sources said many staffers would be required to scrutinize every form and then feed the data into the system. Next, each applicant whose form is complete is required to be invited to attend a practical test.
While the roadways officials claim that all the formalities would be completed by February — the time fixed by the state government to launch the Mudrika service in Gurgaon, sources in the department said that the entire process might take around six months from now. According to the state government’s plan, 100 buses — general as well as airconditioned — are being made available for the city bus service in Gurgaon.
Notably, these buses, which will be run by the transport department, are not part of the earlier plan of bringing 450 buses under PPP model. The PPP project has got stuck in legal issues raising a question on its feasibility.
To manage the 100-strong fleet for the city bus service, a post of general manager, works manager, traffic manager and other supervisory staff and multi-skill workshop staff have also been carved out. Haryana Roadways general manager (Gurgaon) Yashendra Singh said, “A separate team is necessary for maintaining the smooth functioning of the service. And as far as hiring of drivers and conductors is concerned, the department will complete the process by February.” The drivers and conductors will be hired on a contractual basis. The wages have been fixed at Rs 8,000 for conductors and Rs 10,000 for drivers with 10% annual increase.
