Goa’s first BSc-BEd batch attains 93%

MAPUSA: The state’s first batch of Bachelor of Science-Bachelor of Education (BSc-BEd integrated) students has attained a pass percentage of 93. The course, which is currently offered only at Ganpat Parsekar College of Education, Arambol, saw 30 students pass with a distinction and 10 with a first class.
Navneeta Sawant scored 78.7%, Ulhas Virnodkar 78.6% and Anusha Kunde 78.2%.
In its traditional format, a five-year BEd programme can be pursued only after graduation from college. The integrated BEd course, however, can be taken up right after higher secondary school and is spread over four years. It was introduced by the Union human resource development ministry across the country in the recent past with an aim to improve the quality of teachers and methods of instruction.
A student of the integrated programme stands to obtain two degrees BSc and B.Ed or BA and B.Ed as per his/her choice. Ganpat Parsekar College offers courses in both.
“The integrated course provides ideal teacher-shaping and gives justice to both, BSc and BEd. The outcome is a complete teacher who has the backing of drama, fine arts and sports besides the basics of BSc and BEd,” said Laxmikant Parsekar, chairman of the Harmal Panchakroshi Shikhan Mandal that runs the college.
