Mapusa: Priya Mishal was unanimously re-elected as chairperson of the Mapusa Municipal Council at a special meeting convened for the purpose on Friday. She replaces Nutan Bicholkar who stepped down after serving for a year. Deputy collector Varsha Parab was the presiding officer at the election.
After her election, Mishal told reporters that she would focus on ending the town’s waste management issue that has been hanging fire for a long time. “I would also want to put an end to the chaos at Mapusa market and bring some orderliness there,” she said and added that infrastructure issues would be addressed on priority.
Sources, however, said that Mishal’s previous stint as chairperson was hardly impressive as the town did not see any major reforms then. “Although she said the right things after she was re-elected for second time, we don’t expect anything to change,” an opposition councillor said.
