Marcela man's body found in sluice gate

MAPUSA: AnandNarvekar, 55, from Madapoi-Marcela in Pondataluka, allegedly committed suicide by drowning himself in a village sluice gate. Ponda police said Narvekar was missing since Monday, but his body was found in the sluice gate on Tuesday. Police said Narvekar was mentally disturbed, and that the deceased's brother has stated that he had attempted suicide in the past and would always threaten to end his life.
Alert Mapusa fire station staffer foils theft bid: Alert staff of the Mapusa fire station foiled a theft at a pump house in Mapusa on Tuesday evening. Subha Shirodkar, sub officer at the Mapusa fire station, has lodged a complaint with the Mapusa police stating that Santosh Rathod, a native of Karnataka, attempted to steal a water pump from the fire station's pump house by dismantling its base. He was noticed by a staffer, who caught hold of him while committing the crime. Rathod was later handed over to the police who arrested him.
Quepem man booked for molestation: The Quepem police booked Deepu Bharthi, a resident of Quepem, for molesting a woman and assaulting her at Kevona-Quepem. Police stated that the victim's husband lodged a complaint on Sunday.
