PANAJI: Ilha de Vanxim association on Tuesday met chief town planner S T Puttaraju and demanded the denotification of the 1,85,125 sq m land in Vaxim village which is converted into settlement and demarcated for a hotel resort.
Villagers under the banner of Ilha de Vanxim Association (IDVA) visited the office of town and country planning department to oppose the conversion of water bodies into settlement.

"Our demand is that the government revoke the settlement zone marked in survey no 8 of Vanxim village from Regional Plan 2021," said IDVA president Maggie Siveira. Silveira showed photographs to Puttaraju and said, "No law allows water bodies to be converted into settlement zones for hotel and resort projects."
The association has planned a public meeting on October 29, at Azad Maidan in Panaji to protest the government decision. The delegation said that Puttaraju has assured them that their grieviances will be solved.
