I-day awards presented

On the occasion of India’s Independence Day, chief minister Manohar Parrikar on Friday presented the President’s Police Medal for meritorious services to former SP Tony Fernandes; the CM’s gallantry medals to 11 fire services personnel including director of fire and emergency services, Ashok Menon, SFO Namdeo Parwar, sub officer Shrikriashna Parrikar, LFG Prakash Kannaik, fire fighter Avinash Gaonkar, fire fighter Kamlesh Koregaonkar, fire fighter Nitesh Saterkar, fire fighter Pramod Naik, fire fighter Satish Dessai, fire fighter Prabhakar Velip and fire fighter Molu Velip; and the President’s Home Guards and Civil Defence Medals to senior platoon commander Usman Shaikh and ASL Bharati Naik.The chief minister also presented Yashadamani awards 2014 to Inocencia Miranda, Indrasena R Shirodkar, Vidhya Sangodkar, Aparna Porob, Samiksha Dessai, Shilpa Duble, Shruti Naik, Nayana Adarkar and Anjali Amonkar.
Bhagwan Mahavir statue damaged: Unknown persons on Friday damaged the statue of Bhagwan Mahavir, at the children’s park in Campal, Panaji. Police said that unidentified persons on Friday afternoon damaged the statue which was installed a few years back. Police said that the watchman of the garden told them that till Friday morning he did not see any damage done to the statue, but in the afternoon he noticed that some miscreants damaged the nose, ear and finger of the statue. The forest department has filed a complaint at the Panaji police station and a case was registered under Section 295 (hurting religious sentiment) of the Indian Penal Code against unknown persons.
KR trains get extra coaches for festive weekend: In order to cater to the rush during the extended festival weekend, extra coaches will be attached to 12051/12052 Janshatabdi Express and 12133 / 12134 CSTM - Mangalore Jn–CSTM Express on Konkan Railway route, official sources informed. One second class chair car coach will be added to train No 12051 Dadar–Madgaon on August 14 and 16, and to train No 12052 Madgaon–Dadar on August 15 and 17. Two such coaches will be added to train number 12051 on August 15 and to train number 12052 on August 16.
