All eyes on launch of Fatorda poll campaign

PANAJI: As far as Salcete politics is concerned, all eyes are on the inauguration of the block Congress office in Fatorda on Saturday evening as it will once again bring into focus PWD minister Churchill Alemao's relations with general secretary of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Vijay Sardesai.
Fatorda Congress block president Joseph Silva has said that he has invited Churchill, urban development minister Joaquim Alemao besides chief minister Digambar Kamat and GPCC chief Subhash Shirodkar among others.General secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and in-charge of Goa desk Jagmeet Singh Brar and AICC secretary Sudhakar Reddy will launch the Congress campaign for the Fatorda seat at the function scheduled at 7pm.
The function comes more than a week after Sardesai criticized Churchill for attending a football match on the invitation of his arch-rival Piedade Noronha in Fatorda constituency. Political analysts say that it is important for the Congress to have Sardesai and Churchill together and in this backdrop, it will be crucial to see whether the Navelim MLA will attend Saturday's function.
Besides the Fatorda event, Brar and Reddy will inaugurate a self-help group in Shirodaon Saturday at 10.30 am.
