Mapusa police, on Wednesday, arrested 10 matka bookies and recovered 17,000 from them. Panaji police nabbed nine persons for illegal gambling in Taleigao and seized 8000 in the raid. Crime branch also conducted a raid in Margao today and arrested four persons involved in the matka business. During the raid, Mapusa police arrested Pradosh Gadekar, 31, resident of Khorlim; Francis Martins, 45, resident of Mapusa; Gajanan Morajkar, 36, resident of Morjim; Ashish Saxena, 19, resident of Peddem; Jitendra Gadekar, 26, resident of Khorlim; Vijay Oswal, 43, resident of Siolim; Umesh Gawde, 22, resident of Guirim; Dilip Sawant 42, resident of Mapusa; Santosh Parab, 30, resident of Sawantawadi in Maharashtra and Prashant Kamat, 57, resident of Parra.
They were operating at different dens in Mapusa. Police have booked the offence under Sections 11 and 2 of the Gambling Act.
