NEW DELHI: Harish Kumar will have to learn to live with one leg. On Tuesday, the high court blast victim had his left leg amputated, making him the fourth victim to have lost a limb. Kumar had fractured his legs in the blast and also received serious vascular injuries.
“Kumar had received serious vascular injuries and there was no blood circulation in his left leg.

We waited for a week for any improvement. However , it had to be amputated,” said a senior doctor at the hospital.
Kumar, however, is not the only one who had a leg chopped off to survive. Three more victims of the Delhi high court blast underwent limb amputation . Fifty-eight-year-old Rattan Lal, who is still critical, had both his legs amputated. While Madan Mohan Sharma underwent a below-knee amputation , Vipin Kumar (52) was transferred to All India Institute of Medical Sciences where his left leg was removed .
Doctors say that there are a few patients who have received serious vascular injuries and stand the risk of limb amputations. While Kumar and others will have to come to terms with this irreparable loss, there are many still battling for life.
Relatives of Rattan Lal and Mridul Bakshi have been praying for their recovery . Of the 13 patients still at RML, Lal and Bakshi are the two whose condition remains critical.
Doctors say that Mridul’s condition started to deteriorate in the last 24 hours. “Mridul has stopped showing improvement in the last 24 hours. We are not being able to ascertain a reason yet as he is suffering from multiple problems,” said a senior doctor.
Twenty-six patients injured in the high court blasts are receiving medical attention in hospitals across the city. Thirteen are in RML, four in Safdarjung Hospital, five in AIIMS, one in Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital, one in Moolchand Hospital and two in Max Hospital. In the last two days, 13 people have been discharged from RML Hospital.
