Ground visits begin for houselisting work under Census 2027
New Delhi: A large number of enumerators visited their assigned areas on Saturday to carry out ‘ground-truthing’ to physically verify locations and match them with houselisting block maps provided to them. The exercise involves verifying their houselisting block maps with field visits to ensure that no household is left out during the survey.
“The enumerators have to complete the process by June 14. They are expected to start the enumeration work by undertaking door-to-door visits from Monday or Tuesday,” an official said.
The city’s 250 Municipal Corporation wards have been divided into around 46,000 blocks. The exercise is expected to cover around 33 lakh households across the capital.
Each enumerator will carry an identity card and a ‘Census of India 2027’ bag containing essential items.
The houselisting exercise will collect information on 33 parameters, including building and household details, construction material of houses, number of residents and socio-economic category of the head of the household. Data on living conditions and amenities such as water supply, sanitation, cooking fuel and electricity access will also be recorded.
They will also collect information on assets such as televisions, internet access, computers and vehicles, besides noting down mobile numbers for census-related communication.
Meanwhile, around 1.3 lakh residents completed the self-enumeration exercise conducted between May 1 and May 15, with South West district recording the highest participation.
