NEW DELHI: The city on Sunday recorded 699 fresh Covid cases and four deaths in the last 24 hours, according to data shared by the Delhi government’s health department. The positivity rate stands at 21.15%.
According to a release issued by the Delhi government, out of four deaths, three deaths were cases of an “incidental” detection and the cause was not primarily Covid, however, one was due to the virus.
Sunday’s case count takes the total active case count in the city to 2,460. Of these, 136 are admitted in the hospital including 53 in the ICU with 33 on oxygen support and 8 on ventilator.
Over 3,300 tests were conducted across the city over the past 24 hours. Health officials said that they are keeping an eye on the increase and there was no reason to panic as the number of hospitalisations and serious illness was low.
According to figures provided by Delhi government, out of total 7939 beds available in dedicated covid hospitals, only 1.71% (136) are occupied while no admission was reported across covid health centres and care centres, where nearly 200 beds are available.
Dr Rommel Tickoo, director of internal medicine at Max Super Speciality Hospital, said that a very few people, especially elderly, who are suffering with Co morbidities, require hospitalisation. “Severity is seen in such cases only in the past few weeks as they are at the high risk of complications,” he said, adding that the majority of them recovered after a few days of getting infection.
