New Delhi: An autorickshaw driver and his accomplice were arrested for allegedly snatching a mobile phone in north Delhi's Wazirabad.
They posed as regular auto drivers and targeted passengers or people using phones on isolated stretches, especially during late hours. While one of them snatched valuables, the other waited in the auto for a quick getaway.
A complaint was registered at Wazirabad police station after a mobile phone was snatched on early Monday. "Around 12.30am, a man approached the complainant from behind, snatched his mobile phone, and fled towards the Jagatpur flyover. The snatcher escaped in an autorickshaw waiting nearby," an officer said.
An auto driver memorised the vehicle's registration number, which helped police catch the culprits, 32-year-old Rohit Kumar and 28-year-old Suraj Sharma. The mobile phone and the auto were seized.
While Kumar was involved in three previous cases of robbery, assault and arms violations, Sharma has two cases of robbery and snatching. tnn
