NEW DELHI: The timely intervention of the special task force of south Delhi prevented a city industrialist from being robbed of Rs 50 lakh. Acting on a tip-off, police nabbed the robbers near the Nelson Mandela Marg minutes before they could target him.
“A team led by inspector Rajender Singh arrested three robbers, including a gram pradhan of a village in Hapur.
A loaded pistol, a knife, five cartridges, a stolen motor cycle and the car used in the crime have been found,” said B S Jaiswal, DCP south.
The accused, Manoj (40), has several cases of vehicle theft and robbery against him in Arunachal Pradesh. He was also arrested in an attempt to murder case when he had opened fire at the police team in Meerut.
His associate, Sunil Chaudhary (32), arranges weapons for the gang. Another associate, Surender alias Jai Ram, was involved in dacoity cases in northeast Delhi. Both are from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.
After a high-speed chase, the police intercepted a motorcycle and a Maruti. They then arrested the occupants. The motorcycle seized from Manoj Pradhan was found to be stolen from Shakarpur, east Delhi in 2011.
“A case under Arms Act and attempt to robbery was registered. During interrogation we found that the accused had carried out a reconnaissance of a Sahibabad copper factory and found that the industrialist carried huge amount money once in fifteen days,” said additional deputy commissioner of police P S Kushwah.
The accused also disclosed that they had targeted two women in separate incidents and robbed them of their jewellery.
