NAINITAL: Local authorities had promised construction of a road from MB Inter College to Tikonia in Haldwani after a sewer line was laid. However, while all works related to the sewer line were completed in April, the road construction didn't start.
Miffed with the alleged negligence of authorities that is affecting thousands of area residents, Haldwani-resident Sameer Verma filed a PIL urging the Uttarakhand high court to direct concerned authorities to complete road construction before the onset of the monsoon.

The petitioner added that if the road construction is not completed before the monsoon, sewer water would enter people's houses after every intense rain spell.
Hearing the PIL on Wednesday, the division bench of acting Chief Justice Sanjay Kumar Mishra and Justice RC Khulbe directed the state government, secretary of urban development, district officer Nainital and the public works department to clarify the situation before June 29, when the case will next be heard.
