Dehradun: Union defence minister Rajnath Singh will address a public rally in Haldwani on March 21 to mark four years of the Pushkar Singh Dhami-led govt in Uttarakhand, BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt said on Saturday.
Bhatt said the rally in the Kumaon region will highlight the govt's achievements and development initiatives over the past four years. He added that the party expects a large turnout, similar to the recent public event in Haridwar attended by Union home minister Amit Shah.
Speaking at the BJP state headquarters, Bhatt said the party welcomes new and former political and social workers who wish to join the BJP. Decisions on new entrants will be taken on the recommendation of the party's joining committee as part of its membership drive, he said.
The BJP has set a target of adding 2,000 to 3,000 workers in each assembly constituency, Bhatt said, adding that the drive has already begun in Dharchula.
Taking a swipe at the opposition Congress, Bhatt alleged that its legislators failed to raise sufficient public issues during the recently concluded assembly session, while BJP MLAs raised questions related to public concerns and regional issues. He added that the response to the govt's achievements suggested the "Haldwani rally could see participation from lakhs of people".
