Dehradun: The district administration and agriculture department at Bageshwar on Thursday, in the presence of MP Ajay Tamta, felicitated the hemp growers who successfully cultivated the first crop of industrial hemp.
It took scientists nearly six years to come up with a hemp variety of less than 0.3% Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
Farmer Ajay Chaubey holds three licences and was selected for conducting the trial-based project on his 0.5 acres of land in Mankot village.
Meanwhile, Ajay Tamta said, “Cannabis is one of humanity’s oldest wonder crops and it has the potential to open doors of growth for Uttarakhand. We are hopeful that with its cultivation, we will restore our trajectory of growth in the agri sector.”
