Nainital: A two-day judicial colloquium on
human trafficking began on Saturday at the Uttarakhand Judicial and Legal Academy (UJALA) in Bhowali, aimed at strengthening judicial response and coordination in tackling the crime.
The programme brought together more than 150 participants, including the chief justice and judges of the Uttarakhand high court, the additional director general of police, judicial officers from different districts, administrative and police officers, prosecution officials and representatives of non-govt organisations.
The colloquium was inaugurated by Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand HC Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta, who said the programme aims to enhance coordination, sensitivity and effective legal action in cases related to human trafficking.
Justice Gupta said experts will hold discussions during the two-day programme on prevention strategies, victim rehabilitation, investigation procedures and judicial processes. Participants will also receive practical inputs on legal provisions, investigative methods and victim assistance mechanisms.
Those present included senior judge Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari, UJALA supervising judge Justice Ravindra Maithani, Justice Alok Mehra, Justice Subhash Upadhyay and Justice Siddharth Sah.
Also in attendance were academy director Pradeep Pant, registrar general Yogesh Kumar Gupta, Nainital district magistrate Lalit Mohan Rayal, district judges from across the state and officials from police and voluntary organisations.
