MUSSOORIE: Chief secretary SS Sandhu on Friday inspected the Mall road, which had been dug up for repairs in February and is still under construction. Sandhu asked officials to expedite the work.
"New sewer and water lines have been laid on the road, while cobbling is being done. The work has perhaps taken more time than it should have and I have directed all officials to complete the work at the earliest, especially since the tourist season is nearly here," Sandhu said.
Speaking to TOI, district magistrate, Dehradun, Sonika, who was present during the inspection by the chief secretary, said "We have issued directions to complete the work at the earliest. Senior officers have been asked to monitor the work on a daily basis."
It must be mentioned that re-laying of the Mall road started in February but the work has been delayed owing to poor weather. The slow pace of work has caused anguish among locals and businessmen.
"This is the peak tourist season, but hotel bookings have plummeted. This year, no tourist wants to come to Mussoorie due to 'negative publicity' (about uneven roads)," said a hotelier.
