Uttarkashi: A 50-year-old jawan of the
Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) died during a river crossing training program at Bhagirathi river in Tekhla area of Uttarkashi district on Monday. Officials have denied negligence and ordered an investigation into the matter. According to sources, assistant sub-inspector Mohan Singh of the third battalion was taking part in a routine exercise that was conducted by the Counter-Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School with other soldiers.
While crossing the river he slipped and drowned in the river. After which the ITBP officials took him to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
DIG Harendra Pal Singh, principal CIJWS Mahidanda said, “The body of deceased soldier, who died during the training program has been sent to his family, where he will be cremated with national honours. During primary investigation, no negligence was found and all the safety standards were followed. However, we have still set up a probe to find out the real cause of the incident.”
