Dehradun: Four men were arrested and their car was seized on Monday for allegedly assaulting a man and attempting to run over him on a public road in Dharmawala area of Dehradun. A video of the incident purportedly showing one of the accused driving recklessly while deliberately trying to mow him down has been widely circulated on social media.
Dehradun SSP Pramendra Dobal said the incident took place Sunday night when the accused – Ikram Latif, 36, Vishal Goyal, 32, Shahrukh, 26, and Arshad, 26 – all residents of Sahaspur, allegedly stopped fellow resident Ravindra Singh on the road and began assaulting him.
"Acting on an eyewitness' input, police arrived at the spot and arrested the four accused while the injured man was taken to hospital," said Dobal, adding that Singh lodged a complaint against the four men, accusing them of assaulting him, damaging his vehicle and trying to kill him.
"A case was registered against the accused under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 281 (negligent driving endangering human life on public road), 324(4) (mischief), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of BNS. The men were produced before a local court on Monday and sent to jail," said the SSP.
