Rural police’s well-being to be taken care of
Coimbatore: Inspector general of police (west zone) K Periaiah inaugurated the well-being programme for the rural police on Friday with an objective to reduce the stress among them.
He urged all the police personnel to take part in the programme to feel relaxed. “It is a two-way communication programme where cops can share all their problems with the trainers, who will offer them solutions.

Every Sunday, cops and their family members will be provided counselling,” Periaiah said.
He said the programme would be conducted for one year and 1,500 cops from the district rural police would benefit from it.
Addressing the media, Periaiah said cops would be given leave on their birthdays and marriage anniversaries, so that they could spend quality time with their families.
The inspector general of police said there was no Naxalite movement in the western zone and the Naxalite special division police were regularly conducting combing operations in forest areas. “Our cops are maintaining a very good rapport with the tribals. If any strangers are found roaming inside the forest, the special division would get information immediately. We have been implementing a lot of welfare measures for the tribals.”

Periaiah also said the accident rate has come down in Coimbatore and a few other districts in the western zone. “The best three districts will be selected in the zone and officials will be rewarded for their effort to reduce the fatal accident rate in their respective districts.”
DIG Karthikeyan and district superintendent of police R Pandiarajan also addressed the rural cops.
