COIMBATORE: R Pandiarajan, who assumed charge as the superintendent of police on Friday, promised to implement the compulsory helmet norm in rural Coimbatore and steps to reduce the number of fatal road accidents.
He will also monitor the crime-prone areas and will intensify patrolling, Pandiarajan told reporters. “I will mobilise police personnel from other parts of the district to Sulur to prevent burglaries.
I plan to increase police strength and police beats. A database containing details of migrant labourers in Sulur police station limits will be created,” he said.
The officer ruled out the presence of Maoists in Tamil Nadu. “But Maoists have been sighted in Kerala. We have a Naxalite special division and a special task force (STF) camp at Pillur and Mangarai in Coimbatore, who conduct combing operations in the forest and check Maoists’ entry,” he said.
Pandiarajan hails from T Kokkulam village in Thirumangalam taluk in Madurai. He graduated from the Madurai Law College and cleared the Group -I exam in 2005. After the training, he served as the deputy superintendent of police in Dindigul, Theni, Virudhunagar and Tirunelveli districts. Later, he was promoted as ADSP and was posted in Viluppuram and Tirupur. Last year, he was promoted as SP and was posted at STF, Sathyamangalam.
Former SP Pa Moorthy was transferred to STF, Sathyamangalam on Thursday night.
