Tamil Nadu: Govt school teacher booked for forging son’s birth certificate

COIMBATORE: The city police registered a case against a government schoolteacher for furnishing a forged birth certificate of his son for renewal of his son’s passport.
M Suresh Raj, 52, of Chinnammal Street at KK Pudur, is working as a teacher in a government school. He obtained passport for his son Michael Raj in 2010 by furnishing documents and birth certificate mentioning that Michael was born in the year 2001.
To renew the passport, Suresh Raj furnished birth certificate and other documents of his son Michael Raj, 18, before the regional passport office in January 2019.
On scrutinizing the documents, officials found that Suresh Raj had provided a fake birth certificate mentioning that Michael was born in the year 2002.
On verification with the Thoothukudi municipality, officials confirmed that it was a forged birth certificate. Following this, senior superintendent of regional passport office (Coimbatore) KK Ashokan lodged a complaint with the city police in March 2019.
But the police did not take any action. Finally, the Saibaba Colony police registered a case against Suresh Raj on Monday. Police booked Suresh Raj under sections 466, 468, 471 of the Indian Penal Code and section 12 (1) of the Passport Act.
Police said the complainant meanwhile was transferred to a passport office in Kerala. Police have also sought a written letter in connection with the fake birth certificate from the Thoothukudi municipality. After collecting the documents, further actions would be taken against Suresh Raj, police said. tnn
