Former DMK MLA (Avinashi constituency) G Elango's second son was stabbed after a dispute over encroaching poromboke land at Ponnaiahrajapuram in the city on Sunday night.

COIMBATORE: Former DMK MLA (Avinashi constituency) G Elango's second son was stabbed after a dispute over encroaching poromboke land at Ponnaiahrajapuram in the city on Sunday night. Police said he sustained four stab injuries on his chest, abdomen and has been admitted to the ICU ward of a private hospital.Elango’s son, E Madanagopal, 40, of Chokkampudurm, is also a DMK member and deputy secretary of DMK North district in Coimbatore. One of the accused, fell off his motorcycle, as he attempted to flee after the attack. He sustained a fracture and was arrested by police who arrested the other accused on Monday and remanded him to judicial custody.Police said Madanagopal was consuming liquor at his agricultural farm at Chokkampudur with his friends K Ramji alias Ramakrishnan, 38 and Elango, 45, both hailing from Chokkampudur, on Sunday night.According to police, Elango had planned to encroach a 3.5 cent poromboke land at Ponnaiahrajapuram. However, Madanagopal had occupied the land illegally even before Elango and dumped stones there. During the course of their drink, Elango told Madanagopal that he would take over the poromboke land soon and would setup a petty shop.
This got Madanagopal furious who warned Elango against staking claim for the land.Elango retaliated and soon the argument took an ugly turn when he took a knife and stabbed Madanagopal’s chest, abdomen and head. Ramji also joined Elango and attacked Madanagopal. When Madanagopal collapsed, the duo tried to escape on a motorcycle when Elango fell off the bike.Madanagopal raised an alarm and the neighbours rushed to the spot and admitted him at a private hospital. Doctors told the police that his condition is stable.Based on his complaint, Selvapuram police inspector R Srinivasalu registered a case against Ramji and Elango under sections 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC and arrested Ramji on Monday morning. Elango was admitted at a private hospital. The arrested person was remanded to judicial custody on Monday evening.
