TN govt orders release of Bhavanisagar dam water to two canals

ERODE: Tamil Nadu govt has directed water resources department (WRD) officials to release water from the Bhavanisagar dam to the Thadepalli-Arakkan Kottai and the Kalingarayan canals. In a statement, WRD stated that water would be released for 120 days starting Friday. Around 40,247 acres of land -- including 15,743 acres in Bhavani, Erode, Modakurichi and Kodumudi unions served by the Kalingarayan canal and 24,504 acres in Gobichettipalayam, Andhiyur and Bhavani unions served by the Thadepalli-Arakkan Kottai canal -- will be benefited. Officials appealed to farmers to use the water wisely.
