Chennai: Three men employed in a private parcel service have been arrested for detaining household articles, including a Jawa bike, in Chennai and demanding Rs 28,000 as additional charges to deliver the goods in Pune.
Police said the complainant, Jeevan Singh, 24, of Raja Annamalai Puram, approached Stalin Packers, a private parcel service, on Sep 1 to move the goods from Chennai to Pune.

He transferred Rs 6,500 to the parcel office staff. Following this, they bundled all the goods and took them into their custody.
Later, one of the parcel office staff called Jeevan Singh and demanded that he pay an additional amount of Rs 28,000 to deliver the goods to the address in Pune. Based on Jeevan Singh's complaint, the Thoraipakkam police registered a case and arrested the parcel office staff – Praveen Kumar, 24, of RA Puram, Rakesh Kumar, 37, of Puzhal, and Anandakumar Yadav, 20, of Puzhal.
Police retrieved the goods – a Jawa bike, seven boxes of household goods, three suitcases, and a matrix bed mattress — from them. The arrested trio was sent to Puzhal prison.
