Suresh was also involved in the double murder of north Chennai rowdy Chennakesavalu and lawyer Bhagavath Singh near Poonamallee magistrate court in 2009. The same year police also arrested Arcot Suresh's girlfriend Anjalai who they said was also close to Chennakesavulu.
Police said Chennakesavalu's associates had been planning to eliminate Suresh and engaged six men. On Friday, Suresh, who was involved in more than 33 cases including six murders, came to Chennai to appear before the 10th Metropolitan Magistrate court in Egmore.
Later, he went to Foreshore Estate along with a friend named Mohan and Amalraj, a lawyer. Then, as Mohan and Amalraj went to a nearby restaurant, Suresh and an accomplice named Madhavan went to the beach to consume liquor. It was at that moment that the gang of six cornered and murdered Suresh. Madhavan suffered an injury when he tried to rescue his friend.
