Periyar varsity workers association urges Tamil Nadu govt to set up inquiry by retired HC justice over irregularities

SALEM: Legal advisor of the Salem Periyar University workers' association (PUWA) advocate and professor A Elangovan told reporters here on Sunday that Salem Periyar university's vice chancellor, registrar and the controller of the examination were responsible for the four students' future. It is learnt that the university recently issued transfer certificates (TC) to those four students stating in their transfer certificate that their performance was not satisfactory.
"The university has taken revenge against the four students' after they gave an interview against the university management in connection with a professor issue," Elangovan said.
PUWA's new office bearers installation was held in the city on Sunday. President R Kanivannan headed the event. Vice president P Krishnaveni welcomed the gathering. Participating as the chief guest, Elangovan said that the state government set up a team to inquire about the 13 irregularities in the university. "The team just received the documents from the employees who're under the scanner. But, the team did not initiate any inquiry with them till date," he said, adding that those employees were still working in the university. They have to be placed under suspension till the inquiry gets completed. He also urged the state to set up a one man commission led by a retired high court justice to inquire about all the irregularities.
The university did not convene the syndicate meeting for the last six months. As per the university statute, the meeting to be convened once in three months.
Elangovan lamented that the university was named after the rationalist Thanthai Periyar. "But, the university management has been functioning caste based," he added.
