Lok Sabha elections 2024: All three Chennai seats see record voter turnout since 1980

CHENNAI: All the three Lok Sabha parliamentary constituencies in Chennai on Friday clocked a record voter turnout since 1980 throwing a surprise to many. The city residents fired up in voting in the last three hours -- from 3 pm to 6 pm -- taking the voter turnout from around the 45% mark to close to 70% mark. Chennai North recorded 69.26%, an increase by 5% points from 2019, while Chennai South and Central Chennai recorded 67.8% and 67.3% respectively, an increase by 10% and 9% each respectively. It was in 1980 the last time when such a high turnout was recorded in these seats in the past.Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu recorded a voter turnout of 72.09%.
