Govt declares holiday for Chennai schools and colleges due to rain

CHENNAI: Chennai district collector E Sundaravalli has declared holiday for educational institutions in the district on Monday.
An official communique from the collectorate cited heavy rain as the reason. Private institutions too began sending messages to parents, informing the government's decision.
The heavy rainfall that lashed on Sunday inundated many low lying areas in the city and uprooted several trees.The forecast for Monday is that mainly cloudy with possibility of rain or thunderstorm.
The Chennai corporation has requested public to call its helpline 1913 to register complaints on water-logging and tree falls.
