CHENNAI: The Virudhunagar district crime branch police on Wednesday arrested former
Tamil Nadu dairy development minister K T Rajenthra Bhalaji from Hassan in
Karnataka on Wednesday for cheating some people of Rs 3 crore by promising them government jobs. The police have registered three cases against Bhalaji so far.
The police nabbed the former AIADMK minister by tracking his close contacts who helped him with accommodation and food in various places.
A police team arrested him when he was about to leave for Goa in a car. There were three more men in the vehicle.
On December 17, Bhalaji led an AIADMK protest in Virudhunagar against the DMK government. When he was informed that his anticipatory bail petitions in connection with two cases were dismissed by the Madras high court, he left the spot and had been absconding since then.
The first case against Bhalaji and his two accomplices was for collecting money from 23 people with the promise of getting them government jobs in Aavin and in government departments. The second case is based on a complaint from K Nallathambi who is one of the co-accused in the first case. Nallathambi alleged that Rajenthra Bhalaji had used him as a tool to collect money from people by promising them jobs in Aavin.
Now, Bhalaji is facing three cases. At least half a dozen complaints have been filed against him at various police stations in the state.
