Dejected over husband’s death, woman kills daughter, self in Chennai

CHENNAI: A 24-year-old woman committed suicide after killing her two-year-old daughter at Kasimedu on Monday night. Police said the woman took the extreme step since she was dejected over the death of her husband.
Bhuvaneshwari of B Block in Kasima Nagar married to Pugazhendhi, a crane operator at Chennai Harbour, three years ago. Pugazhendhi was diagnosed with cancer recently and was undergoing treatment at a government hospital in the city.His condition grew worse and died two weeks ago.
After his death, Bhuvaneshwari had appeared depressed and shown suicidal tendencies, neighbours said. On Monday night, she strangled her daughter, Dikshitha, to death using a rope and committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of the house.
The neighbours, who found her missing on Tuesday morning, peeped through the window of the house and found the dead bodies. They informed the Kasimedu police. The police sent the bodies for postmortem and registered a case.
