CHENNAI: A seven-month-old girl child slipped out of her mother's hands from a fourth floor balcony, landed on a metal roof over a portion of the first floor of an apartment in Avadi, and looked in danger of slipping and falling to the ground, but was rescued in the nick of time on Sunday.
As scores of residents of the apartment complex watched helplessly, a couple of men climbed on to the ledge below the roof and one of them managed to pull the baby to safety.

Some others were waiting on the ground holding a sheet to catch the baby if she fell.
Police, who arrived on the scene after noticing a video of the rescue that went viral after a resident posted it on social media, said the child's mother was reaching for a mop on the balcony when the child slipped from her arms.
No foul play
Police do not suspect any foul play and said the child appeared unhurt.
This is not the first time that babies have survived falls. In 2019, an eight-month-old baby girl slipped from the fifth floor of a building in Sowcarpet and landed on a bike seat.
