CHENNAI: The organs of a 20-year-old student were harvested and given to those in need on Monday.
The donor Muthu Kumaran, son of Ravi, a business was pursuing his third year in an arts and science course at SRM College. He sustained serious head injuries while riding his two-wheeler on Friday. He was immediately admitted to SRM Kattankulathur for emergency treatment and later on shifted to SIMS Hospital Vadapalani for further medical management the following day.

The patient was admitted in neuro ICU with ventilator support. “Despite our best efforts to stabilise him, he was declared brain dead on January 10th at 05.40 am. The family volunteered to donate his organs to the deserved,” said a doctor at the hospital.
As per the approval received from the Tamil Nadu Cadaver Transplant Program authorities, both the kidneys were harvested and transplanted at SIMS Hospitals. The heart and liver were sent to another private hospital in the city and the corneas were given to a patient at SRM Medical College Hospital. Muthu Kumaran was eldest son of Ravi S who is Business man by profession. “The number of patients requiring organ donation is far higher than the number of organs available. Hence the apt usage of the resources is of primary importance,” said a release from the hospital.
