Chandigarh: The top brass of
Haryana police on Monday updated the Haryana assembly speaker Gian Chand Gupta about the investigations into the threats to Congress MLAs of the state.
While expressing satisfaction over the pace of investigations, Gupta, however, asked the officers to ensure the additional security measures for the MLAs, especially those under threat.
Besides this, the speaker also asked the top cops to ensure that those deployed in security are provided with the latest automatic weapons.
Among those who called on the speaker included director general of police (DGP) P K Agrawal, ADGP (law and order) Sandeep Khirwar, ADGP CID Alok Mittal and inspector general (security) Saurabh Singh.
In his interaction later with journalists, Gupta said security of the legislators tops the priority of the government as well as the Vidhan Sabha secretariat. “Threats to MLAs have emerged as the latest challenge to the democratic system. MLAs represent lakhs of people and are not ordinary persons. We will do our best to protect them,” said Gupta.
Notably, for the past one fortnight, six
Congress MLAs so far have got the threats from gangsters. Three MLAs have got calls from the same ISD number.
Home minister Anil Vij has asked the STF to probe the cases registered into this.
