MOHALI: Police on Monday gave district residents a reason to smile as stolen goods worth over Rs 2.91 crore were returned to their rightful owners after obtaining necessary orders from courts concerned.
Patiala range IGP Paramjit Singh Gill handed over the property, which had been seized in cases registered by Mohali police in 2010. Forty vehicles, 46 motorcycles, one bicycle, two three-wheelers, seven tractor trolleys, one bus, three trucks, three canters, three mobile phones, 180 grams of gold, two laptops, one camera and two gas cylinders were handed over to their rightful claimants.
Gill said in 2010, Mohali police had solved two blind murder cases, five kidnapping cases, arrested 18 persons in three separate cases of preparing for dacoity recovered arms and ammunition, vehicles, gold and Rs 1.65 lakh.
In cases of robbery, thefts, house breaking, murder, kidnapping and rape, 14 dreaded gangs and 60 accused persons had been arrested. Arms and ammunition, ornaments, gold, vehicles, instruments used in house breaking were found.
The IGP said the arrests had yielded Rs 1.51 crore in cash and materials. In 2009, robberies amounting Rs 1.50 lakh had been committed and 100% recovery had been made. While this number swelled to Rs 4.95 lakh in 2010, the recovery made in robbery cases was Rs 11.98 lakh, therefore recovery made was at 242%.
