CHANDIGARH: Punjab government on Tuesday sought to allay the apprehensions of micro, small and medium entrepreneurs regarding adverse impact of Chinese import on the growth of their industry, saying we would have to innovate and compete in the global market to beat China in its own game.
Industries and commerce minister Madan Mohan Mittal, in the session to invite investment proposals on light engineering and MSME, said Punjabi entrepreneurs through their innovations and skills have weathered all storms, including the days of militancy, to excel in light engineering, hand tools and cycle industry.
To promote research and development, 10% of the investment in state would have to be earmarked for R&D activities to develop products according to changing requirements of market and consumer.
Mahesh Munjal, chairman, Majestic Auto, recalled the growth of Hero Industries in Punjab and said the state was the "heaven" for small scale industry to industrial atmosphere, cheap availability of labour besides total support of state government in industrial growth.
