BATHINDA: Terming the drug abuse as one of the biggest problem in present day
Punjab, State
Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has decided to hold yatra in the state taking along victims of drug abuse to prepare people against this social menace.
"I will visit every district, town, and village with the victim families to ensure that this problem is eradicated.
I know the people of Punjab stand with the Congress Party in the battle against drugsā, said Raja Warring while addressing Congress protest against drugs at Faridkot on Thursday.
He said that the synthetic drugs infiltrated our state nearly 15 years ago, as earlier the problem was confined to poppy husk and opium, but surged four times during the past year and a half year of the present regime.
In response to the Aam Aadmi Party's promises made during their election campaign, Warring asserted that the state government had completely backtracked on their commitment to control the drug menace within their first four months in power.
Warring expressed his anguish saying the entire state was gradually deteriorating due to the rising drug-related cases, leading to loss of children, siblings, and spouses, thus turning the lives of people upside down.
Urging the state government to take resolute action against the drugs issue, Raja Warring clarified that his intent was not to engage in a political battle, but rather to work toward a better Punjab. "I will not lay blame; we know who is responsible. Now is the time to work towards a brighter future," he stated.
Raja Warring commented, "Punjab is currently going through a dark period. The SYL issue, the 50,000 crore debt burdening Punjab, and the unjustified arrests made due to political pressure are all contributing to gloomy days for our state."
Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa taking on AAP government said that the counsels of this government made claims in the Supreme Court that the opposition p-arties and farmers not allowing the construction which unmasks AAP. He said the state assembly is made for debating isues confronting the state and the state government should convene an all party meeting on the issue. SYL is a political issue and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann should speak to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to solve this vexed issue, said Bajwa.
Former CM Charanjit Singh Channi said that the drugs spread in the state during this regime under state patronage.
Former deputy chief minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, MLA Pargat Singh, former MLA Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon too addressed.
