Chandigarh: Power department junior engineer arrested for graft

CHANDIGARH: The CBI on Monday night arrested a junior engineer (JE) of the electricity department for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a resident for not imposing a fine on him for using one power meter for two houses. Sector 28 resident Satish Kumar posted in Sector 40 was remanded to 14-day judicial custody on Tuesday
The CBI said Kumar allegedly inspected the complainant’s electricity meter on receiving a complaint of excess electricity load and found one electricity meter for two houses.
CBI sleuths recorded a conversation between the accused and complainant. As the accused allegedly accepted the bribe of Rs 8,000, the CBI caught him red-handed. Later, the CBI conducted searches at the residence of the accused in the city and Yamunanagar and recovered Rs 2 lakh.
